Washington:
Donald Trump on Friday touted a fake endorsement from JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, who is not on his side in the US presidential election.
President Trump posted a post on his platform, Truth Social, with the headline, “New: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon endorses Trump for presidential candidacy.” I posted a photo.
The item was posted by President Trump around 6pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and appears to be a repost of another social media item.
But a JPMorgan spokeswoman said the longtime bank chief was not on the campaign trail.
“That report was false,” JPMorgan spokesman Joe Evangelisti said in an email to AFP. “Jamie doesn’t endorse any candidates.”
In August, President Trump shared a doctored image of superstar singer Taylor Swift purporting to be supporting his presidential campaign.
But last month, Swift announced her full support for Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. The doctored image shared by President Trump “raised fears about AI and the danger of spreading misinformation,” he said in an Instagram post on September 11.
“The easiest way to fight misinformation is to know the truth,” Swift said.
As of 5pm GMT, the fake Dimon support remained posted on Trump’s Truth Social page.
