US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump met in the Oval Office on Wednesday to begin the transfer of power following Trump’s historic upset victory in the 2024 election.
Biden told Trump during the meeting that he looked forward to a “smooth transition of power” in January and promised to “make sure” that he is on point when he takes back the White House.
“Well, congratulations to the president-elect, former President Donald,” Biden told Trump as they sat together in front of a roaring fire.
Biden then added, “Welcome home,” before the two leaders shook hands, a moment of bonding between the outgoing and incoming presidents. In response, Trump said politics would be “tough” before thanking the expected smooth transition of power.
President Trump said, “I’m very grateful for such a smooth transition of power. It’s going to be as smooth as possible,” to which Biden responded, “We welcome it.”
