The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday that Perdue Foods is recalling more than 165,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and chicken tenders over concerns about foreign objects.
The USDA said the frozen foods “may be contaminated with foreign objects, especially metals.”
According to the USDA, the recall covers 22-ounce packs of Perdue Simply Smart Organic Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets, 29-ounce packs of Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders and 22-ounce packs of Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets.

According to the USDA, all of the recalled products have a best-by date of March 25, 2025. They were all manufactured on the same day in March 2024.
“The recalled products have the establishment number ‘P-33944’ on the back of the packaging,” the USDA noted.

It was not immediately clear which retailers carried the affected products.

The USDA said the recall was announced after “consumer complaints” about metal wires being found embedded in chicken nuggets and chicken tenders.
Because the products are stored frozen and often not consumed immediately after purchase, consumers may not realize the items have been recalled, the USDA noted.

“FSIS is concerned that some products may be finding their way into consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly encouraged not to consume them,” they said.
“These products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase,” the announcement added.

According to the USDA, there have been no known reports of injuries associated with consuming the recalled products, and anyone who may have accidentally ingested the metal in the nuggets is urged to contact their health care provider.
