Pope Francis welcomed 103 members of the Austrian Ski Association (Österreichische Skiverband – ÖSV) to the Vatican on Thursday for the 2024-2025 Alpine Ski World Cup, which begins on October 26 in Sölden, Austria.
The association was founded in 1905 and is currently based in Innsbruck.
Sports can help promote camaraderie
Addressing the delegation in the Consistory Hall, Pope Francis encouraged associations to always cultivate the values inherent in sport, such as perseverance, honesty, friendship and unity.
In this way, he said, “you will contribute to a more fraternal world and sing hymns to the Creator in the midst of the natural wonders of your country.”
