Police are investigating after what appeared to be human remains were discovered Monday at a luxury apartment complex in downtown Miami, officials said.
The body was found in a building in the 100 block of Northwest 6th Street in downtown Miami, Miami police said.
Building management reported the discovery shortly before 10 a.m.
Police said they found body parts believed to be that of a man in a garbage dump. Multiple police officers and the medical examiner responded and the body was removed.
Authorities have released few details but said detectives are trying to figure out how the body got there.
“Police are trying to determine if this was a self-inflicted injury or a completely isolated incident,” Miami Police Department spokeswoman Chiara Delva said in a statement.
Police are asking residents and anyone in the area to avoid the area to avoid disrupting the ongoing investigation.
