HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) – Two people are dead after an overnight shooting at a luxury high-rise condominium in Hallandale Beach.
“33 just happened at the La Mer Apartments at 1830 South Ocean Drive. Six to seven shots fired. You can see two people on the floor,” a Broadcastify police scanner can be heard saying. Ta.
The call for help came in just after midnight at one of the Beach Club buildings near State Route A1A and Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
“The gunshots were heard at unit number 4508. We advise both men to stay on the balcony. There should be a Hispanic woman in the back. A man is face down on the balcony.” I could hear the police scanner being broadcast.
Hallandale police arrived and found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds on a 45th floor balcony.
Police said both victims died at the scene and are classifying the shooting as a double homicide.
7 Skyforce photographed a bloody balcony and an apparent bullet hole through a sliding glass door.
As investigators surrounded the building, a flashlight was found on one of the balconies.
Residents were prohibited from entering while investigators searched the scene and collected evidence.
“I tried to go home. I can’t get in. I think something weird happened here. I don’t even know what exactly it is,” Eric said. “It’s pretty insane. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve lived here since I was a kid. It’s wild.”
“It’s very tragic. We don’t know who is who. I’m sure we’re going to hear more. The building is very secure, so I would be very surprised if someone came in from outside,” the resident said.
Officials said this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.
The shooting remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, Beach Club Two’s management company said it is saddened by this tragic loss and will cooperate fully with law enforcement.
