WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) – We’re right in the middle of giving season.
People in the Pittsville area are also lifting spirits by donating gifts to Pittsville Elementary School.
This gave students the opportunity to shop and give back.
“They’re supposed to bring in $5. We donate the money that comes in so that every child has the opportunity to shop,” Pittsville Dean of Students Ron said. Klein said.
Pittsville Elementary School’s 7th annual Christmas Shop is now open.
This is a system in which the school receives donations from the local community when students purchase them as Christmas presents.
“They’re shopping for their families. They come in with a list of people to buy, but everything they’re buying is in a price range that a child can afford,” Klein said. .
Gifts for your loved ones can range from 25 cents to the all-purpose $2.
Not only that, but the cash students use to purchase these gifts goes straight back into the community.
“Ultimately we can spend this money in our own communities,” Klein said. “We donate it to local food pantries and we started a food pantry here for students who have some kind of need.”
Mr. Klein has implemented this program in other schools where he has worked.
Saying some things never gets old.
“We’ll help the kids shop, have them explain in 4K why they’re buying presents for so-and-so, and as they get a little older we’ll watch the process,” Klein said.
“Last year, I got a candle for my mom, a stuffed animal for my sister, and a jar of peanuts for my dad,” said fifth-grader Alexis Schooley.
A hit with all students who need to budget for gifts for their loved ones.
The Christmas spirit is in full swing, and Klein said the school donates more than $1,000 each year with each store opening, and this is the largest donation to date.
