LEXINGTON, Ky. (September 30, 2024) — UK HealthCare is proud to welcome Pineville Community Health Center to the University of Kentucky Gill Heart and Vascular Institute Affiliated Network and the UK HealthCare/Norton Healthcare Stroke Care Network.
By joining the Gill Affiliate Network, Pineville Community Health Center (PCHC) will have access to the latest cardiovascular expertise. This partnership will provide PCHC providers and staff with comprehensive cardiac education and training, strengthening their ability to improve the cardiovascular health of patients in Bell County and surrounding areas.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Kentucky, and the state has the highest death rate in the nation. In response, the UK’s Gill Heart and Vascular Institute, a leader in cardiovascular care, is working to combat these health challenges through the Gill Affiliate Network. This initiative aims to reduce the prevalence of heart disease by fostering collaboration with health care facilities in the state.
As part of these measures, UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute is working with a large network of community and regional hospitals across the state to ensure Kentuckians receive care when and where they need it. Strengthening access to quality cardiovascular care. The affiliated network includes 25 hospitals. In addition, Gill supports more than 15 outreach locations, with 12 locations providing cardiac image interpretation services across a variety of imaging modalities.

Through the Gill Affiliate Network, PCHC providers and staff receive specialized cardiovascular education and training, assistance in achieving and maintaining cardiac certification, and support in growing and developing their cardiac programs. This collaboration will ensure Pineville residents receive comprehensive cardiac care, from cardiology to vascular and cardiothoracic surgery, ensuring patients receive quality care close to home for as long as possible. As part of the UK HealthCare/Norton Healthcare Stroke Care Network, PCHC will also gain resources to promote stroke-related community and professional education and tools to optimize stroke care. The network’s services are designed to help hospitals provide the highest quality stroke-related clinical care. This mission is supported by comprehensive education programs for healthcare providers, staff, and community members, and robust continuous quality improvement.
Kentucky has the highest stroke-related mortality rate in the nation, with more than 2,000 Kentuckians dying from a stroke or stroke-related complications each year. Larry B. Goldstein, M.D., Interim Medical Director of the Stroke Care Network, said that as more hospitals join the network, we will help advance the state’s health care system and improve stroke prevention and emergency care.
