First Lady Melania Trump finally returned to the campaign trail, if only for a few hours.
The crowd cheered when she entered the arena where the Republican National Convention was held in July, wearing a bright red Christian Dior skirt suit and waving to Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters.
For most of those in attendance, it was likely the first time they had seen Melania Trump in months.
Melania Trump retired from public life after her husband lost the 2020 presidential election to President Joe Biden. She has largely avoided participating in Donald Trump’s public activities, including most of his current reelection campaign.
Her absence was also felt during the debate between the former president and Biden in June and during the assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania in mid-July.
Donald Trump acknowledged questions about Melania’s whereabouts in a September 2023 interview with Meet the Press, saying, “She’s an introvert, a wonderful person, very confident, and she loves our country very much. She’ll be there, when the time is right.”
A source close to the former president told CNN in March that Melania is “very selective and deliberate about what she wants to do and how she presents herself.”
Melania Trump has been behind the scenes with her husband’s campaign but has been spotted at other public events and around the Trump family properties.
