After winning their first game 11-1 at Longwood, Pennsylvania returned to the field late in the doubleheader with Lancer.
The Nittany Lions’ offensive firepower remained strong in the second game, pulling away the doubleheader mercy rule as they defeated Longwood 10-0.
Both teams started slowly, and neither offense gained anything in the first two innings.
Pennsylvania pitcher Mason Horwatt escaped two innings without giving up the run, while Longwood’s Guillermo Garcia Jr. limited the offense.
Paxton Kling’s power was the main headliner of the first game against Longwood, with Pennsylvania’s Rosoon Springs showing off his power again in the second game.
Kling’s solo homer put the Nittany Lions on the board in three innings to give them a 1-0 lead.
The home run continued in four innings, blue and white. Jack Porter roped the double and set it up with a runner who scored Jesse Jaconski.
Yakonski sent one to Center Field Wall to expand the Pennsylvania lead to 3-0.
Horwat continued his dominant start of the season in his second start, pitching four scoreless innings and allowing only two hits.
The bats remained awake for blue and white in the fourth innings, with the batter capitalizing some free bases.
After Kling hit the pitch, Ryan Weingartner drew a double on the field on the left, scoring two runners.
Kling crossed the home plate on a wild pitch, giving the Nittany Lions a 4-0 lead.
Joe Jaconski’s four-pitch walk set up two runners for Bryce Molinaro, winning a single at Weingartner and introducing the team’s second inning.
After another hit by the pitch, Nate Voss brought in Joe and pushed the Pennsylvania lead to 6-0.
The Nittany Lions got one of the top pitchers on the mound, taking a crucial 6-0 lead.
Horwat backed up big innings with his offense as he tidyed up the Longwood batsman and pushed out through five innings in the second start of the season.
Weingartner added another run in six innings with a solo shot that traveled 412 feet. It was the third homer in the Nittany Lions game, and it was the fourth inning in a row on runs.
It was another shutdown inning for Holwatt as he lasted his longest outing and pitched six innings of scoreless baseball.
The bat remained awake, causing offensive momentum to be carried into the seventh innings.
Voss started a two-run home run on the left field in his second game as Nittany Lion.
It wasn’t all in seven innings, blue and white. Jesse reached out on a bunt single and gave Cole Mercado a base runner. Mercado sent the ball to the center field on the right for the RBI double. Pennsylvania’s lead was 10-0 and was well in the mercy territory if they held longwood in the final innings.
The team had the opportunity to have a double-header mercy rule that potentially only half an innings.
Matt Morash got the opportunity to clean up the game early and got into the game on the Nittany Lions mound.
Morash sent out Lancer bats in turn, finishing the game in just under two hours with two flyouts and groundouts.
The bats took over the Nittany Lions as Jesse, Kling, Wayne Gartner and Voss all had home runs.
Penn State won the second half of the doubleheader 10-0, wiping out the doubleheader with the fashion of the Rules of Mercy.
