LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Terrence Howard was standing in a bank parking lot at the Pavilions Shopping Plaza on May 15, 2023, when he fired several shots into a car, and on Tuesday Howard learned he will face 11 years in prison for the crime he committed.
Howard, 22, of Romney, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault, criminal recklessness and unlawful possession of a handgun by a felon.
With credit for good behaviour, Howard will serve 75 percent of his 11-year sentence, or just over eight years. He has been incarcerated awaiting court adjudication for the past 15 months, so that time will be added to his sentence.
After firing at a gray car that was about to leave with a green light, Howard attempted to leave the scene on his bicycle, but Lafayette Police Department officers swarmed the scene and detained Howard.
Prosecutors said witnesses identified Howard as the gunman and bank surveillance footage showed him firing shots at a car.

The driver of the car Howard shot at later told police he did not know Howard was firing at his own vehicle. The driver told police he had been leaving the shopping center, crossing Crissy Lane into the parking lot on the east side of the Pavilions Shopping Plaza at the time of the shooting.
Howard pleaded guilty last month, according to online court records, and charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal intimidation and unlawful possession of a handgun were dismissed during his sentencing on Tuesday.
