Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes already has a career that ranks him as one of the best playoff quarterbacks in NFL history. Now, he’ll look to build on that resume against the Texans on Saturday.
Here’s Mahomes’ position in some of the NFL’s most important playoff quarterback categories.
Wins with starting quarterback: The Chiefs have won 15 postseason games with Mahomes as their starting quarterback. If he wins Saturday, Mahomes will have the second-most wins by a starting playoff quarterback in NFL history behind Joe Montana. Tom Brady holds the record with 35 postseason wins.
Passer Rating: Mahomes’ playoff passer rating of 105.8 is the second-highest in history among quarterbacks with at least 150 postseason pass attempts in their career. Baker Mayfield holds the record with 105.9 points.
Passing Touchdown Passes: Mahomes has thrown 41 touchdown passes in the playoffs, fifth-most all-time. If he throws three more, he will be tied for fourth place with Brett Favre. Joe Montana and Aaron Rodgers are tied for second with 45, followed by Tom Brady with 88.
Passing Yards: Mahomes had 5,135 passing yards in the playoffs, good for eighth all-time, and if he threw for 232 yards against the Texans, he would pass Drew Brees for seventh place all-time. Tom Brady’s record of 13,400 total postseason passing yards has been safe for many years.
Passes completed: Mahomes has 456 completed passes, which ranks eighth all-time. He will almost certainly surpass seventh-place Joe Montana (460) on Saturday and then set his sights on fifth place, tied with Drew Brees and Brett Favre at 481. Tom Brady’s record is 1,200 playoff completions.
