Paramount+ is coming to Thailand, as Paramount Global announced a licensing deal with Bangkok-based entertainment company Mono on Thursday. The pact will bring the Paramount+ brand and select Paramount content to the Thai company’s growing streaming service Monomax.
Monomax’s distribution on Paramount+ will begin in November, according to the new partners. The deal was announced on the second day of the APOS media conference in Bali, Indonesia. Lisa Kramer, president of international content licensing and global content distribution for Paramount Global, said at APOS that the Thailand deal marks the beginning of similar deals in the region.
The deal continues Paramount Global’s flexible approach to offering the Paramount+ brand and its content portfolio in markets around the world, either by launching direct-to-consumer services directly or through bundling partnerships with local operators. Branding collaborations similar to the new deal in Thailand have been implemented through agreements with Cosmote in Greece, Streams in Belgium, Multichoice in Africa and GeoCinema in India. According to Paramount Global, Blast TV in the Philippines will be the next service launch for the Paramount+ brand. In the developed market of Japan, Paramount+ will be offered direct to consumers.
Mono is best known in Thailand for its flagship digital terrestrial and satellite television channel, Mono Twenty-Nine, a popular 24-hour channel that broadcasts international television series and movies. The channel is the top licensor of content from major Hollywood studios in Thailand. Monomax is the company’s increasingly popular subscription VOD service.
For the first year, Monomax’s new Paramount+ branded hub will give subscribers access to Paramount+ content across Showtime, CBS Studios and Paramount Pictures, including popular series FBI: International, NCIS, NCIS: Sydney, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King and Halo, as well as blockbuster films such as Dungeons & Dragons: Conquerors, Transformers: Rise of the Beast, Hellraiser and the Mission: Impossible series.
“Paramount Global Content Distribution’s core strategy remains focused on delivering the highest quality entertainment to audiences in innovative, accessible new ways across multiple content pillars and genres, and this new agreement with Mono does just that,” said Dan Cohen, Paramount’s chief content licensing officer and president of Republic Pictures. “The success of Paramount+ branded destinations on streaming services around the world makes it a compelling option for both our clients looking to offer in-demand content and grow their subscriber base, and for end users who want to access that content within a familiar platform as they grow their business.”
Navamin Prasopnet, CEO of Mono, added: “Our primary goal has always been to provide our customers with the best entertainment experience. Partnering with Paramount Global Content Distribution will allow us to significantly enhance our offering.”
