What we call a touchdown sounds pretty nice in other words.
On Sunday night, Romeo Doubes returned to the Green Bay Packers game after missing two weeks with a concussion. Dubs, who last took the field three weeks ago against the San Francisco 49ers, scored two touchdowns, including the game-clinching one in the fourth quarter as the Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 30-13. It was a big step up.
Dubs’ return was one of the few storylines in this Packers offense, with him and Christian Watson proving to be a formidable outside receiver tandem. The two combined for about 100 receiving yards, but each added 73 yards after drawing a pass interference penalty. With those players cooking and running back Josh Jacobs joining the mix both in the air and on the ground, Jordan Love continued his late-season surge with another great passing game.
Here’s a look at the Packers’ offensive playing time and stats from Sunday night.
quarterback
Toyotason Love is also with us. In this game, he posted a passer rating of nearly 124, his second highest of the season and his fifth straight game with triple digits. That was the result of his 20-for-27 performance for 229 total yards and two touchdowns.
running backs
Josh Jacobs 48 Chris Brooks 16 Emmanuel Wilson 6
Jacobs was a mainstay from the start of the game and throughout the game, totaling 30 touches. Matt LaFleur leaned on Jacobs in a run game where the offensive line dominated the Seahawks’ front, nine of which came on the first drive of the game. Jacobs gained 136 yards from scrimmage, his second-highest total of the year, and his sixth 100-yard gain in the last seven games.
Brooks acquired most of his backup running backs ahead of Wilson, many of whom served as pass blockers. He gained 6 yards per carry and 9 yards receiving, while Wilson gained 3 9 yards on his own carries.
wide receiver
Christian Watson 50 Romeo Doubes 48 Jaden Reed 38 Dontavion Wicks 30 Beau Melton 2
Doe’s return was a welcome one, as Love found him for two touchdowns. The first was an unusually physical play by the third-year receiver, who caught the ball near the 5-yard line and ran through multiple tacklers to reach the end zone. His second goal, which brought the game to a halt in the fourth quarter, was an unbelievable catch along the back line in the end zone. The Dubs also drew a pass interference call late in the first half to set up a field goal for the Packers, and had three catches for 40 yards and two scores.
Watson, meanwhile, led the way with six targets and had three catches for 56 yards. His best performance was a perfect toe-tap reception on the left sideline of a beautiful ball from Love, which also earned him a penalty for long pass interference.
Reed showed a methodical touch in this game, looking to pick things up after a near-shutout loss to Detroit last week. He had three carries for 27 yards and five receptions for 34 yards, totaling over 60 yards from scrimmage. Wicks’ usage was primarily as a blocker, but he recorded two catches for 14 yards, including a 12-yard gain to move the chains.
tight end
Tucker Craft 57 Ben Sims 16 John Fitzpatrick 9
With the Packers leaning towards the run game, Craft wasn’t able to do much work as a receiver. His big play came on a free play when Seattle committed a jump offside, allowing Love to cross the middle for a huge hit. Craft evaded defenders for a 26-yard catch and had two grabs for 34 yards.
offensive lineman
Rasheed Walker 64 Elgton Jenkins 64 Josh Myers 64 Sean Ryan 64 Zach Tom 64
The Packers’ offensive line kept Love reasonably clean as he didn’t take a single sack in the game. But he was allowed six hits, including three from sophomore linebacker Derrick Hall.
