Trophy – Introducing the winning team at the annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game, the Bordas and Bordas Cup is depicted in a trophy case inside the Eco Center. With a 13-13 tie last summer, the trophy is shown in team photos from both Ohio and West Virginia 2024 All-Stars.
Wheeling – For the first time in its 78-year history, the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star football game ended with a tie last summer. It will never happen again.
The result of the 13-13 deadlock in late July and the result of the deadlock at Wheeling Island Stadium between Ohio and West Virginia, OVAC Executive Committee members heard the uproar, including players, coaches and fans, as Midsamar Sick settles on the field.
At a recent meeting of the OVAC Executive Committee, the proposal from the All-Star Football Committee was unanimously approved to hold overtime sessions similar to college football. However, there is no down distance to start like an NCAA system. After a coin toss, the team decides the order in which they attempt, and each team plays from the 3-yard line.
“The OVAC Executive Committee has approved a request to add overtime to the All-Star Game. Student-athletes are hoping to have a lot of work in the game and have an opportunity to win.” Game Director Corey Murphy. “After last year’s game, we saw the passion from players. Sam Jones and I knew we had to put this in to make Rudy Mumley’s classic even better. We’re looking forward to this year’s game.”
“The team will alternate plays from the three-yard line until they determine the winner.” OVAC football commissioner Sam Jones said.
OVAC executive director Dirk Decoy said the change came after serious thought.
“That’s what the kids want and they want to work overtime.” He said. “Last year there was a single tie in gaming history, and that’s why it was born, and this is the key factor.
“It could be two plays or five or six overtimes. As long as it takes to decide who the winner is, we’ll go. I’m excited about it.” Decoys have been added.
“Kids want a winner. This is a big game. I’ve always said that this game is played once a year, but it’s been freed forever.”
Some detractors will say, “There is always a chance that players will be injured in meaningless play.”
“You can see it in two ways. Administratively, yes, it’s a charity football game.” Otomi pointed out. There is always concern that another play could hurt someone, but I hope that doesn’t happen. ”
The rules change will take place this summer in the 79th edition of the game, where Cameron and Union’s local coaching staff lead their respective states.
