Baltimore Orioles Shortstop Gunnar Henderson will begin the season on an injured list, general manager Mike Elias announced on Sunday.
Henderson, 23, has been out ever since maintaining tense intercost muscles on February 27th, when he knocked him out of a Grapefruitreeg match.
He had returned to baseball a week and a half ago, but he no longer achieved his goal of being ready for opening day.
The Orioles plan to be cautious about their approach, based on Henderson’s history with abdominal muscle tone. He fought through left diagonal discomfort in the first three weeks of training last spring.

“We’re going to try and get him there as soon as possible,” Elias told reporters. “Obviously, I’m very hoping that the IL stint will be measured in days rather than weeks, but I don’t have a crystal ball. But he’s doing well and it’s a matter of getting him ready for the season, hitting him, measuring his recovery.”
The latest injuries are different from the 2024 injuries, Henderson said on March 15th, and has more issues than previous ones.
Henderson played 159 games and was his first All-Star in 2024, with 37 home runs, 31 doubles, 92 RBI and OPS of .893. He was the 2023 American League Rookie of the Year.
He hit .268 with 69 Homer and 192 RBI in 343 career games against Baltimore.
