LAKE PLACID — After hosting the first UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Lake Placid in late September, the state Olympic Regional Development Authority plans to host both downhill and cross-country World Cup races next year. However, ORDA Communications Director Darcy Rowe Norfolk said the venues for these events have not yet been determined.
“We need to go through a process of looking at locations and considering what UCI ideally needs and what can be hosted and run in the best possible way.” she said.
Although the venue has not been officially announced, Norfolk has confirmed that it will be an ORDA-run venue.
“We host those events.” she said, “Exactly where they will be located has not yet been determined.”
The announcement was made official on October 2, after Warner Bros. Discovery Sports and the International Cycling Union unveiled the 2025 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series Calendar.
The event, scheduled for October 3-5, 2025, will showcase the world’s top mountain bikers competing in World Cup formats including Cross Country Short Track (XCC), Cross Country Olympic (XCO), and Downhill. (DHI)
The 2025 edition of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series is part of a three-year agreement between the Olympic Administration and WBD Sports, the global promoter responsible for broadcasting, promoting and organizing the UCI Mountain Bike World Series. is.
The ORDA-sponsored event will once again be the only U.S. stop on the 2025 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series Tour, and one of only seven locations to host both downhill and cross-country races on the same weekend. The WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series debuted in Lake Placid in September with a cross-country race on a new course at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
The addition of downhill racing next year will attract a new crop of mountain bike pros and their loyal fans. Frenchman Loïc Bruni, a five-time world champion, is one of the greatest athletes in the history of the sport, and Austrian Valentina Hill is a rising star in the women’s rankings.
The WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series will travel to 10 countries over 15 rounds in 2025, with 16 intense weekends of racing from April to October.
