Count Blumenauer is one of the longest-serving elected officials in Oregon history, if not the longest. He was first elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in his early 20s, and went on to serve for 50 years on the Multnomah County Commission, the Portland City Council, and most famously represented Portland in Oregon’s 3rd Congress for nearly 30 years. That is what I did. district.
During that time, Blumenauer stood out for a variety of reasons, including his bow ties, his enthusiasm for bicycles, and his passion for marijuana legalization. But now he is bidding farewell to public service and looking forward to his role in helping his hometown rebuild. Blumenauer came to OPB on Dec. 13 and spoke with reporter Dirk Vanderhart. They talked about Blumenauer’s career, his views on national politics and what’s next. You can find the show wherever you get podcasts.
