We condemn China for forced restraints of at least 40 Uighurs by Thailand. As a longtime ally of Thailand, we are uneasy about the lawsuit. The lawsuit violates international obligations under the United Nations Convention against torture and endangers the international treaty on protection from forced loss of all. This act goes against the long-standing tradition of protection of the Thai people, and is a tradition of protection for the most vulnerable, and contradicts Thailand’s commitment to protecting human rights. We urge all governments in countries that seek protection so that Uyghurs do not force their ethnic groups to China.
China, under the direction and control of the Chinese Communist Party, commits crimes against genocide and humanity, primarily targeting Muslim Uyghurs and other members of the Xinjiang ethnic and religious minority groups. We call on Chinese authorities to provide full access to regularly verify the well-being of returned Uyghur people. The Thai government must continue to insist and thoroughly examine Chinese authorities to protect the human rights of Uyghur people.
