Can Kentucky change 2 to 3? The Wildcats still had a three-game winning streak in SEC play. They last came in December at stretches in Gonzaga, Colgate and Louisville. To do that, they will need to win on the Texas roads in their first direct battle with the Longhorns to attend the meeting. They also have to do it without the second and third scorers in Jackson Robinson and Lamont Butler. Both were declared before the match in Austin.

History of the series
Kentucky has the matchup leading the first series 2-0 for Austin as Texas made its season debut in the SEC. They defeated UT 63-51 in the 2014 SEC/Big 12 Challenge along with the Cats’ 86-61 victory at the Maui Classic Invitational in 1993.
Rodney Terry, in his third season with Texas, is 0-0 against the Wildcats, while Mark Pope is 1-0 against the Longhorns. BYU won the head-to-head battle in their first year with the Cougars at the Big 12 with an 84-72 victory at Provo. As a player, the Pope never played UT between Kentucky or Washington.

Statistical comparison
(via Kentucky Game Memo)

Interesting statistics from the UK Games Notes:
Otega Oweh’s double digit scoring streak continues, earning over 10 points in every game this season. He currently leads the team with points at 15.9 ppg. If he scores the mark again in Texas, he became the first Kentucky player to score double figures on his 25 straight wins since Malik Monk in 2017. Chrysa, Lamont Butler, Jackson Robinson and Andrew Kerr are also missing time for the first time since December 11th. Mark Pope’s seven top 25 victories are fifth among current SEC coaches in his first three years in the program. The Wildcats’ eight Quad 1s rank second nationwide after only 13 Auburns.
Pre-match storyline
Welcome to SEC
Texas has made its SEC debut this season after officially attending the conference in 2024-25. Kentucky has played the Longhorns twice in history, but never in Austin. It wasn’t the Moody Center that opened in April 2022 after it was destroyed in 2019. The $375 million venue houses 15,000 people in both basketball and entertainment events. Will Wildcats be able to take care of their business in their first matchup as Sec Foes?
Butler and Robinson are out
Karchrisa knew she was going outside with a broken leg, but now both Lamont Butler and Jackson Robinson have been declared. The former deals with shoulder injuries, while the latter works through wrist problems. Kentucky will leave just nine scholarship players and four security guards with duties as Travis Perry, Otega Owe, Coby Blair, Colin Chandler and Amari Williams Manning Ball Handling.
Karma is suspicious of the Longhorns
Kentucky clearly deals with serious injuries, but the biggest story may be that Texas is missing forwards for potentially outstanding forwards. The 6-7 senior and transfer from Kansas is the team’s second leading scorer, earning 7.9 rebounds per game with 12.9 points. It’s the best on the team.
Tre Johnson is the star of the show
If you can’t do karma, if Texas has the chance, they have to become the Tre Johnson show in Austin. Freshmanstar, a former five-star rookie who listed Kentucky as a finalist, averaged 19.3 points on the split on 44/87/39, with nine 20-point performances and one 30-point outing. there is. “He’s an incredible talent and a real challenge,” Mark Pope said of Johnson.
Hot seat terry?
Sitting in Terry’s third season bubble in Austin, the 56-year-old could be coaching for the rest of the season. With the Longhorns’ 23-point home loss, there was a home loss to No. 2 Alabama, causing the team to fall 15-10 a year, and Texas fans booed him. “I don’t pay attention to such things. I didn’t hear boos. I don’t know, maybe there was a boos. There’s nothing people can say or do to me. I don’t know. has got God’s number one protector,” he said.
Texas is hoping for a big victory
This is in line with Terry’s hot seat status, but the Longhorns lost four of their last five innings in SEC plays for the second time, sitting 4-8 in the league, with just three innings this year. I’m sitting with one quad win. They have not had a bad loss 9-0 in Quad 3 and 4 matchups, but they are 6-10 in Quad 1 and 2 games, and there are no high-profile wins either.
