RAMAGE receives latest local award as MVP of Larosa
Cooper High School senior golfer Regan Ramage is the latest athlete from Northern Kentucky to win the LaRosa MVP award. LaRosa’s made the announcement Tuesday. LaRosa winners will be announced weekly starting in August. Ramage is the fourth area athlete to earn this award out of a total of nine recipients. Previous recipients of the 2024 award include Clay Hayden of Beechwood, Olivia Holbrook of Campbell County and Will Sheets of Covington Catholic.

“One of Northern Kentucky’s best golfers is Cooper senior Regan Ramage, this year’s Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference champion. She has been an individual regional medalist for five years in a row. Links success has been quick. She qualified for the state tournament in the 7th grade. Then, in the 7th grade, she became the Jaguars’ all-time medalist. History repeated itself her sophomore year, when she led the Jags to their first regional title and a state tournament berth. In the summer, she was a co-medalist in the qualifying tournament for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
“Reagan tied for fourth at the Kentucky State Tournament last season and earned first-team all-state honors. She was a finalist for Greater Cincinnati Golfer of the Year by the Cincinnati High School Sports Awards organization. Senior season The previous summer, Regan competed in the American Junior Golf Association’s Kenton County Junior Open. She also competed in the Kentucky Golf Association Women’s Stroke Play Championship, finishing runner-up in the tournament.

Ramage’s award follows four consecutive years at an Ohio high school. Northern Kentucky LaRosa’s previous MVP was Beechwood’s Hayden, who earned the distinction on Sept. 17 for the football team. Hayden marked his third consecutive area award winner that week. Holbrook earned Sept. 10 honors in cross country and track. Sheets was the Sept. 3 recipient of the award in cross country and track, making it the first nomination of the season for LaRosa, a northern Kentucky native.
Panda appears in national volleyball poll for the first time
The Notre Dame Academy volleyball team debuted in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Super 25 national rankings. The Pandas ranked No. 16, directly replacing Louisville Assumption, which was No. 16 in the previous poll. The latest Week 7 voting results will be updated later this week.
Notre Dame could move even higher in the Week 8 poll. Panda hasn’t lost since the last AVCA vote. They went 28-3 on the season and were crowned the new 35th District Tournament Champions. NDA is No. 4 in the AVCA Region 5 poll, three spots ahead of Assumption. The Pandas are ranked No. 1 in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.
Lyle Athlete added to offer list
Lisle University senior Landon Romes has received a scholarship offer to play football at Thomas More University. Romes is a multi-sport athlete and a two-way player on the Raiders football team. He excels at wide receiver and defensive back. He leads the team with 422 yards receiving and five receiving touchdowns. Romes ranks second with 26 receptions despite missing two games due to injury. He ranks seventh on the team in solo tackles.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Romes recently set a program record for career receiving yards. He already holds career receptions and TD records. He has at least one more football offer from Marshall. Romes was the Lyle basketball team’s leading scorer last season with 16.1 points per game.
COVCATH football will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025
Next year will be the 60th year of football at Covington Catholic, which began in 1966. This year, the school fielded a prep team under head coach Steve Russo. In 1966, a junior varsity team was formed consisting of a freshman team and a sophomore team. The freshman team finished with 3 wins, 4 losses, and the JV team finished with 2 wins, 4 losses, and 2 draws. Cobcas’ first win in football was a 13-6 JV victory over Holmes in 1966.
Covington Catholic’s first varsity team debuted in 1967 during Coach Russo’s second and final season at the school. The Colonels finished 5-4-1. Russo moved on to LaSalle in Cincinnati and later coached at Mariemont and St. Xavier. Tony Lanham replaced him in the 1968 season, and the Colonels finished with a record of 6 wins and 4 losses. Lanham also led Cobcas to the state golf championship.
