Former presidential candidate and former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley criticized Trump World on Tuesday after former President Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, calling it “too masculine with this bromance element.”
The event, held in New York City, drew a large crowd and featured speakers who made divisive, dark, and sometimes offensive statements.
Haley addressed the comedian’s racist jokes about Puerto Ricans and Latinos on Tuesday’s Fox News, an incident that upset the Trump campaign and was condemned by several Republicans, including members of Congress. .
“Now is not the time to criticize Puerto Ricans or Latinos,” Haley said, calling instead for campaign discipline. “Now is not the time to be overly masculine with any bromance stuff they have.”
She criticized the decision to allow manga artists to perform at the event in the first place, saying there was “no reason” to do so.
The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
Haley pointed to Republican ads and messages, as well as other language used throughout the rally, as destructive to drawing women to participate on Election Day. Opinion polls show a large gender disparity in this election, with more women supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, while Trump won among men.
“This bromance and masculinity is so edgy that it makes women uncomfortable,” Haley said.
“Affiliated PACs are doing commercials that call Kamala the ‘c’ word and refer to Madison Square Garden speakers as her and her ‘pimps,'” Haley added. Ta. “That’s not the way to win over women. That’s not the way to win over people who are concerned about President Trump’s style.”
Haley was referring to a video Elon Musk’s super PAC released to X calling Harris a “communist” before calling her a “communist.” The spot was removed from America PAC’s account on Monday.
Last month, Haley also criticized Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, saying, “We need to change the way we talk about women.”
“There’s no need to call Kamala an idiot,” Haley said at the time. “It’s not like she got to this point, it’s just a coincidence. … She’s a prosecutor. We don’t need to talk about intelligence or looks or anything like that. Just focus on policy.”
Democrats have been working to target voters who supported Haley over Trump in this year’s Republican primary.
Haley, the last person to run against Trump in the Republican primary, said she had not spoken to Trump since June. However, in July she endorsed him and spoke at the Republican National Convention.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Haley’s representatives had been discussing the possibility of having her appear in place of Mr. Haley, but a senior adviser to Mr. Trump told NBC News on Monday that scheduling would be difficult. Therefore, the possibility of a joint appearance is becoming less and less likely.
Haley told Fox News on Tuesday that she had made it clear to her campaign that she was prepared to campaign for him in battleground states, but added that she had not been asked to do so.
“His style and language aren’t always the best, but his policies, I would choose policy over personality,” Haley said.
