NICOLET – Nicolette overcomes a double-digit deficit to beat New Ulm Cathedral 68-58 in Friday’s Tomahawk Valley Conference Crossover Boys Basketball Game.
“I finally made some shots.” said Nicolette’s head coach Chris Fulke. “We were cold early, but we have a lot of confidence in these guys and they have confidence in each other. For us, it was we stopped that helped. It’s about getting rebound, playing ass on defense. Noah (Fitzner) and Henry (Oscarson) uptops were everywhere. It started from the defensive side. Nicollett’s Carson Kettner contributed to the Raiders’ sixth straight victory, hitting several key shots during their comeback.

Ketner finished the game with team high 21 points and 7 rebounds, while Henry Kennedy scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. AJ Kramer added 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Jake Finsstad led the Greyhounds with 14 points, while Joe Gillis and Jack Edwards each scored nine points.
Nicolette saw 48-38 with the rest of the second half at 9:03. Ketner started his comeback by making a shot through a foul, and Kramer made a corner three-pointer and reduced the lead to 48-43. Gillis made a layup on the other side, but Kramer did a layup, Ketner made a 2 free throws with a bonus, and Kennedy made a floater to force a cathedral timeout at 6:44. I did. “We’ve just started moving the ball pretty well.” Ketner said. “I tried to defend myself and it started to work.”
The Cathedral fought back at age 56 to tie the game together, but Kettner knocked down a consecutive 3-pointer and raised Nicolette at six. The Raiders were able to seal their victory after they began fouling. game.
“We talked in the locker room. Keep doing what we’re doing.” said Harke. “As long as there is effort and energy in defense, the shots will fall. It’s okay. We’ve done a great job of limiting some of their better people to get open looks. We’ve got a game plan. They ran very well and then scored. Nicolette rose 7-0 after a pair of free throws from Kennedy, and the Raiders were quickly cooled down as Cathedral took a 10-9 lead on a transition layup from Colin Anderson. Nicolette again controlled with a 7-0 run that was capitalized with a 3-pointer from Kennedy, but Cathedral tied the game with 17 on a free throw from Gillis, leading with a 3-pointer from Finstad. Oscarson tied the game again with his own three-pointer, but the Cathedral slowly built a 31-25 lead after a layup from Edwards entering halftime.
Nicolette tied the game again, pushing to open the second half, bringing the score to 31-31 with a 6-0 run. However, the Cathedral took a 14-4 run and took a 45-35 lead after a three-pointer from Anderson. The team swapped buckets to place the score at 48-38, setting the stage for Nicolette’s dramatic finish.
Nicolette (12-12) will travel to Mankato Loyola on Tuesday, while Cathedral (9-15) will travel west of Martin County on Monday.
