There’s still Aaron Rodgers drama. The 41-year-old four-time MVP is the biggest domino to have to fall into the NFL quarterback market this offseason, and it appears he’s putting his time into this decision. The Steelers and Giants are considered his most likely landing spots, but rumors linking Rogers with the Vikings have not yet died.
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert’s report on Wednesday says Minnesota is considering the possibility that at least pursuing Rogers.
“There’s still a possible curveball here,” Seifert told SportsCenter. “My understanding is that the Vikings have at least been entertaining internally about what it would look like to add Aaron Rodgers to this quarterback room, and you have a team with 14 wins, so if you drop Aaron Rodgers into that mix, you could have a Super Bowl favourite in 2025.
“It clearly brings the JJ McCarthy timetable back to 2026 a year ago. There’s no information to suggest that it’s a possible scenario right now, but I know that as of yesterday evening they had that argument internally.
With Sam Darnold joining the Seahawks, all the signs appear to point to McCarthy taking over as the 2025 Vikings start quarterback.
The argument in favour of signing Rogers is that he is in perfect condition for him to have a 2009 Brett Fabre-type season. It’s an all-in-type move from the Vikings, with his eyes set in on winning next year’s Super Bowl. However, there is also a compelling argument for Rogers, as he is receiving a lot of baggage and a lot of media attention. Dan Orlovsky of ESPN believes that the Vikings should never do.
Seifert is not the only insider reporting on the potential of Vikings-Rodgers. Athletics Diana Lassini and Mike Silver reflect the same emotions in the same emotions, adding that Rogers is intrigued by the idea. And given how the Vikings roster appears to be on either side of the ball, why isn’t he?
Viking decision makers are still evaluating their options at quarterback, including the likelihood of signing Aaron Rodgers. The four-time MVP is intrigued by the idea of playing in Minnesota. For now, it’s a waiting game, sources tell @mikesilver and me. pic.twitter.com/ck2uqzl596
