The New York Giants’ season, and perhaps the Daniel Jones era, reached a new nadir on Sunday when the team lost 20-17 in overtime to the Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany.
Graham Gano made a 42-yard field goal in the final minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime. Instead of giving the Giants a change to salvage victory from the brink of defeat, overtime only added to the embarrassment.
Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. fumbled on the first play of OT, and the Panthers recovered the ball at New York’s 23-yard line.

Oh no, I feel bad for Tyrone Tracy.
He was one of the Giants’ best players this season, but he didn’t deserve to be a killer for the Giants.
Panthers kicker Eddie Pineiro hit the uprights from 36 yards remaining to give Carolina the victory.
Tracy’s fumble was the most important play of the game, but it may escape some of the scrutiny that comes with such an expensive turnover. And he can thank his quarterback for that.
Trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, Jones scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, making it a three-point game with 8:33 remaining in the fourth quarter.
New York’s offense had a great chance to take the lead moments later thanks to a fumble by Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard. This left the Giants with one out and 10 base on base just outside the red zone.
Jones made his second interception of the tournament, but was unable to score. The play was a perfect microcosm of the team’s campaign, with Jones throwing poorly and the ball bouncing off Tracy’s hands.
Jones ended up gaining 190 yards and had two picks through the air.
The sixth-year signal caller appears to be on borrowed time in the Big Apple. The progress he made in 2022 is a mirage and he is simply not the solution at the position.
After a performance like Sunday’s, head coach Brian Daboll may feel it’s time to rip the bandage off. Some on social media believe the change is justified.

Unless something miraculous happens here, I think we’re looking at Daniel Jones’ last snaps as a Giant.
Drew Lock is clearly not the answer, but Jones’ 23 million injury guarantee through 2025 means it would be insane to let him play one more game at 2-8. . https://t.co/pzBbLiKqBZ
Dan Orlovsky @danorlovsky7
Why is everyone so surprised by Daniel Jones’ performance?
This has been the case for over 95% of his career.
This is him after college, and this is him since he turned pro.
Ian Hartitz @Ihartitz
Tyrone Tracy may have dropped a direct pass and caused an interception, but I still blame Daniel Jones, because that’s my right as an American.
Justin Penick @JustinPenik
Drew Lock. now. That’s enough.
Charles (“Sounds good” – Andy Reid) McDonald @FourVerts
Drawlock is ironically better than this
Brett Colman @BrettKollmann
The Giants are paying him $40 million a year for this.
40 million dollars. For this.
giants wire @a_o_o_o_o_
Daniel Jones is doing everything he can to lose this game and end his Giants career and possibly fire another regime.
Giants Daily @NYG Mainichi
Brian Daboll, do yourself a favor and bench this guy.
bill simmons @BillSimons
Daniel Jones’ two-minute practice against a terrible Panthers team in Germany was the start of a great day. It’s like jumping into a cold diving pool.
The entire New York organization received a lot of scorn as well.
Danny Heifetz @Danny_Heifetz
It’s so embarrassing to be a Giants fan when everyone else is watching the Giants. Yes, this is what I do in my free time.

The Giants didn’t pay a running back $13 million a year, so they could pay a running back $40 million a year. pic.twitter.com/vni3X4zSiu

Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary averaged 4.6 yards per carry today. Tracy ran three times for 21 yards on this drive alone.
So, on the 3rd and 1st, Brian Daboll calls…a flicker of fleas? pic.twitter.com/ggfCkOVKAd

The ability to accurately and honestly assess your place as a team is half the battle for young systems in the NFL. The Giants’ failure to do that after the 2022 season is a big part of why they’re here now.
At least for the time being, the Giants hold the single-worst record in the NFL at 2-8. If fans haven’t given up on the playoffs yet, they probably have already. Their thinking is instead shifting toward the 2025 NFL Draft and where the G-Men pick in the first round.
alex wilson @AlexWilsonESM
Tyrone Tracy doesn’t think the fumble was the best thing he could have done for the future of this team 😂
blame @blames_
Tyrone Tracy probably thinks he let Giants fans down, but that’s far from the truth lol
The higher the pick, the better chance New York has to land a long-term replacement for Jones.
On the other hand, the Giants could seriously consider benching Jones just because he has a bye in Week 11. That would give reserve Drew Lock a little more time to settle into the starting role and some of the inevitable controversy to subside. Shortly before the team’s next game.
