Cliffs hired for leadership post
The Cliffs has made two key hires to its executive team: Curry Troll as chief financial officer and Stephen Hedges as director of information technology.

Torroll’s experience in private industry has provided him with experience in financial planning and analysis, allowing him to work with management teams to deliver strategic growth. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Greenwich Country Club in Connecticut.

Hedges has led teams in diverse, fast-paced, and changing environments while addressing organizational, technology, and process challenges. Most recently, he was a senior manager of engineering and professional services at Atlanta-based 1 Path Systems. He developed and managed a team of 12 systems engineers.
The Cliffs is a collection of seven luxury residential mountain and lake club communities located in the Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains near Greenville, Asheville, and Clemson.
Cliffs Builders adds sales executive
The Cliffs has hired Matt O’Shaughnessy as the new sales director for Cliffs Builders, a construction program that provides custom and turnkey homes.

O’Shaughnessy is a seasoned sales professional with experience identifying business opportunities, negotiating deals, achieving sales goals, and leveraging market trends and customer insights to provide customer service.
Mr. O’Shaughnessy will serve as the client-facing part of the Cliffs Builders team, guiding buyers from site and floor plan selection to design and construction.
Prior to joining The Cliffs, he worked for Shoreline Construction in Bluffton. Previously, he was an active duty member of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Cliffs Builders has released two offerings at The Cliffs at Keowee Springs: Waterscape and Clubhouse Village. A new addition to the portfolio, Cove Park at the Cliffs at Walnut Cove, introduces three home plans that are close to community amenities.
TealHaus wins BBB Torch Award for Ethics
TealHaus, a woman-owned marketing agency focused on storytelling, has been awarded the Better Business Bureau Ethics Torch Award in Upstate South Carolina.

The award recognizes organizations that demonstrate integrity, integrity, authentic culture, transparent customer relationships, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
TealHaus, the winner in the small business category, was one of six businesses in the region to receive this award.
“This award is a testament to our team’s dedication to building trust with our clients,” said Lindsay Niedringhaus, founder of TealHaus. “We believe every brand has a story worth sharing.”
A woman-owned company founded in 2021, TealHaus has served over 100 nonprofit and for-profit clients.

Greenville franchise veteran named company president
Transworld Business Advisors, a business brokerage firm, has appointed Jim “JT” Tatem as president.
Mr. Tatem, who has 30 years of experience in franchising businesses, will focus on the company’s growth and strategic initiatives. CEO Andy Cagnetta will continue to lead the company’s high-level operations and global expansion.

Mr. Tatem will continue to be based in Greenville, where he will lead a team of business brokers. He also serves on the boards of the Carolina-Virginia Business Brokers Association, United Franchise Group, and Dunklin Memorial Church.
Transworld was started as a franchise by Cagnetta in 2010. Ray Titus, CEO of United Franchise Group. and former Transworld President Bill Ruth.
Ruth will remain with Transworld’s Florida team as a senior business advisor.
Mr. Tatem has held various leadership roles at United Franchise Group, including President of Established Brands. He oversaw brands such as Transworld Business Advisors, Signarama, and Fully Promoted.
Mr. Tatem has also been a franchisee of Transworld Business Advisors Western Carolina since 2016. Son Eli Tatem will take over day-to-day operations of the Western Carolina franchise.
The company has over 1,000 brokers worldwide. Tatemu will strive to strengthen its services to entrepreneurs looking to buy, sell, and grow their businesses.

ForeverGreen recognizes friends for conservation
The Upstate Forever awards luncheon will be held April 22 at the Judson Mill Annex, 701 Easley Bridge Road in Greenville.
Registration begins at 11am. The luncheon and awards ceremony will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The ForeverGreen Annual Awards recognize individuals and organizations that contribute to conservation and sustainable growth. This year’s luncheon will include an Earth Day celebration.
The awards and winners are:
Tommy Witch Land Conservation Champion: Ted Sheehan for his decades of public service and volunteer work spreading awareness of natural resource conservation efforts Clean Water Champion: Melanie Luhrmann, Save Our Saluda President, River Public Servant of the Year for the Saluda River Basin and all of South Carolina for his efforts to protect rivers: Congressman Patrick Haddon for his leadership role in the Working Land Conservation Act, which will make land conservation more accessible to South Carolina farmers.

Harbor cargo facility constructed in Anderson County
Harbor Freight Tools, which retails tools and equipment to professionals and the public, is expanding its South Carolina footprint with a new operation in Anderson County. The company’s $30 million investment will create 36 jobs.

Founded in 1977, Harbor Freight Tools is a retailer of hand, power, automotive and industrial tools. The company established a distribution center in Dillon County in 2002, its first South Carolina operation.
Marlboro Development Team Inc. is building Harbor Freight’s offices, warehouses, and research, development, and innovation center. Marlboro has a long relationship with Harbor Freight.
The 76,171-square-foot facility is located on 12.6 acres along Interstate 85 at 130 Frontage Road in Piedmont. It is expected to be online in the second half of 2025.
AFL continues to expand in Spartanburg County
AFL, a manufacturer of fiber optic products and equipment, is expanding its manufacturing operations in Spartanburg County. The company’s $155 million investment is expected to create 150 jobs over the next two to five years.
The AFL was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Duncan. It is a subsidiary of Fujikura Corporation in Japan.
The company provides end-to-end solutions, products and services for the energy, service provider, enterprise, industrial and hyperscale markets. The company’s products, including fiber optic cables and hardware, power transmission and substation accessories, and plant outdoor equipment, are used in 130 countries.
AFL will expand all of its fiber optic cable manufacturing operations. The expansion will increase production capacity to support domestic cable manufacturing, broadband deployment, and power grid modernization.
Auto supplier grows in Greenville County
Magna International, a mobility technology company and supplier to the automotive sector, is expanding its existing operations by establishing a satellite operation in Greenville County.
Magna’s total investment of $200 million will create 200 jobs at both facilities.
The new 625,000 square foot facility will be located at 923 Matrix Pkwy. In Piedmont. Operations at the new facility are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
Both facilities will produce parts for passenger cars, light trucks and commercial vehicles.

Samaritan Biologics develops Greenville County facility
Samaritan Biologics, a medical technology company, is expanding with a manufacturing facility in Greenville County. The $5 million investment will create 85 jobs over the next few years.
Samaritan Biologics’ facility is located on the campus of Clemson University’s International Automotive Research Center.
The company will focus on developing innovative products for wound care, surgical applications and injured limb care.
“We recognize that Greenville has developed into a region where research, business, and a smart, young, creative workforce are growing and becoming a catalyst for innovation,” said Jerry Chan, co-founder of Samaritan Biologics. “There is,” he said.
