A vacant Mandeville storefront that has housed several restaurants over the past decade will become the new home of Newk’s Eatery, the national chain’s first location in New Orleans’ highly competitive metro restaurant market.
Nux is scheduled to open next spring on a 5,500-square-foot corner lot in the Village Shopping Center on U.S. 190 in Mandeville, said Rhonda Sharkawy, an agent with Starling Properties. The restaurant also has a 785-square-foot patio.
Started in Oxford, Mississippi in 2004, Newk’s has grown to more than 100 stores in 13 states. It offers casual fare such as salads, sandwiches, and pizza. The company’s headquarters are located in Jackson, Mississippi.
Sentinal Capital Partners sold Newx in 2023 to FSC Franchise Company, the parent company of Beef O’Lady’s and Brass Tap.
Newk’s has stores in the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport and Monroe areas, but none in the New Orleans metropolitan area.
The Mandeville location has been vacant since Felix Restaurant and Oyster Bar closed its only North Shore location last year. Felix’s opened its Mandeville restaurant in late 2019.
Felix’s was the latest in a long line of restaurants at that location. N’Tini’s, which moved to Chalmette after Hurricane Katrina, has flourished since opening in Mandeville in 2007 and was briefly home to Due North by Legacy Kitchen in 2017. Before N’Tini’s opened in 2007, this location was home to Rocca Miller’s Steakhouse.
