New South Wales police have deployed assault squads after dozens of luxury cars were spray-painted in Sydney’s central suburbs.
Police said the spray painting was carried out on several vehicles in Darlinghurst between 7pm on Tuesday and 9am on Wednesday.

More cars were found spray painted in nearby Paddington at about 6am on Wednesday.
Police believe the incidents are related.
Residents say up to 60 cars were targeted
A Paddington resident told the ABC he woke up yesterday morning to find his car’s number plate covered in blue paint, along with several other cars in his neighbours.
“[The police] “I was told my car was one of 60 that were repaired in the last three days,” she said.
Residents told ABC the spray painters were targeting a BMW, a Mercedes-Benz and a Porsche.
Residents also told the ABC they had heard from another local that a car had been spray-painted in Paddington six days earlier.

“A look at any Paddington locals’ Facebook page will show someone has posted about it,” they added.
“And it was painted red and the modus operandi was exactly the same, except they were only targeting Mercedes and BMWs.”
The resident was able to remove the spray paint using WD-40 and said there was no other damage to the car.
As investigations into these incidents continue, New South Wales Police have formed a special task force, named “Opelika”, to investigate.
New South Wales Police are urging the public to contact police if they have any information.
