BARBERSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Construction has been underway on the roadway connecting Main Street to U.S. Highway 60 in Barboursville for nearly six months.
The Department of Health is working to install new sidewalks, ramps and a drainage system on Firmdale Road.
Dr. Jeff Overstreet’s Family Chiropractic has two entrances on Firmdale Road, but Overstreet said it hasn’t been affected as badly as other clinics.
“They’ve actually had to close off the entrance so people can park elsewhere and I think they understand it’s a good thing they have a sidewalk,” Dr. Overstreet said.
Jerrod Parsons, a member of Firmdale Church of Christ, said he hasn’t had any major issues closing off the church’s entrance since the bars were installed.
“You have to go in and drive over that grate because you don’t know how safe it is,” Parsons said.
Parsons said he also has concerns about a pastor’s family who live on the property, as well as another chiropractic clinic.
“Unfortunately, it’s affecting them more than it affects us,” he said.
Parsons said Barboursville is full of pedestrians, especially those coming from the nearby veterans home.
“It’s dangerous for them, so having a sidewalk there would definitely help,” he said. “Especially during times like parades and fall festivals, it would keep them from having to walk on the road.”
Mayor Chris Tatum said construction in Barboursville is expected to be completed by early to mid-fall.
Health Department engineers say they are doing their best to have it completed by November. Check the WSAZ app for the latest updates.
