National Signing Day: Oregon has top class, but UGA, Ohio State lurk
Even after National Signing Day, there is still no clear picture of which program will take the 2025 team rankings crown. Oregon currently ranks at the top, followed by Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Alabama. Take a look at the team rankings and other key stories at the end of National Signing Day.
Top 5 programs
If Oregon State can maintain its top spot, the Ducks will become the first Northern program to win the team rankings, an incredible feat in their first year in the Big Ten. Their strong finishes began Sunday, when they flipped four-star Zach Staskowski from Washington, and on Tuesday, they flipped Rivals 250 linebacker Gavin Nix from Miami. National Signing Day concludes with five-star cornerback Naeem Offord, a transfer from Ohio State, Rivals 250 quarterback Jaron Sagaportele, a transfer from California, and Rivals 250 defensive end Tobi Haastrup. Ta.
Oregon ultimately signed a total of four five-star players. Top-ranked receiver Dacorien Moore remained committed to the Ducks, as did safety Trey McNutt and offensive lineman Douglas Utu. In total, head coach Dan Lanning and his staff signed 11 Top 100 prospects and 17 Rivals 250 prospects.
Georgia added no new commitments Wednesday, but the Bulldogs are still in the No. 2 class in the team rankings. The Bulldogs signed five-star defensive linemen Elijah Griffin and Isaiah Gibson and No. 1 tight end Ellis Williams. They are the frontrunners to sign five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry, who will announce his contract on Friday.
Ohio State ranks third in the team rankings. The Buckeyes entered National Signing Day with the No. 1 class, but losing Offord set them back and allowed them to be passed by other programs. Still, Ryan Day and company will be in Columbus next year, led by No. 1 overall prospect Tavian St. Clair, No. 1 defensive back Devin Sanchez and No. 2 linebacker Riley Pettyjohn. We have an elite group of promising stocks.
Karen DeBoer’s first full recruiting class as Alabama’s head coach was impressive. The No. 4 overall class has three five-star players in quarterback Kieron Russell, offensive lineman Michael Carroll and defensive back Dijon Lee Jr. Alabama still has top-40 prospect Ty Haywood under contract, but it looks like they’ll end up signing an offensive lineman. elsewhere.
The Longhorns finished the 2025 recruiting cycle on a strong note and currently sit at No. 5 in the team standings. Steve Sarkisian and his staff plucked Rivals 250 defensive back Cade Phillips from LSU and beat Nebraska to sign Rivals 250 athlete Michael Terry. They also held off a late Florida attack in five-star receiver Jaime Ffrench and Rivals 250 defensive lineman Myron Charles.

Fierce race at the top of the rankings
Barring some crazy turn of events or an unexpected coaching opportunity, there are really only three programs that can finish with team recruiting honors. Oregon State is currently in first place thanks to five additional players since Sunday. The Ducks are also a favorite to acquire Rivals250 tight end Andrew Olesch. The Pennsylvania native is currently committed to Michigan State, but is taking an official visit to Oregon State and will consider transferring when he announces his decision on Friday. If he chooses the Ducks, Oregon State will essentially clinch the recruiting crown and make history as the first Northern team to finish No. 1 in the team rankings.
If Olesh sticks with Michigan, other potential No. 1 options include Georgia and Ohio State. If five-star Justus Terry were to sign with Georgia, the Bulldogs would finish in first place as long as five-star David Sanders Jr. is present. . Stick with Tennessee. Terry is expected to announce his decision on Friday, and Sanders is expected to sign with Tennessee this week.
There is also a scenario where Georgia and Ohio State end up tied for first place. That could happen if Olesch stays at Michigan, Terry signs with Georgia, and Sanders pulls off a surprise deal by signing with Ohio State. At that point, the battle for team ranking honors will likely come down to January’s final Rivals250 and position ranking updates, and last-minute signings during the February signing period.
David Sanders makes JR. VOLS fans nervous
As Rivals first reported, five-star David Sanders Jr. did not sign with Tennessee on Wednesday. The Rivals 250 top-ranked offensive lineman committed to the Voluntary in August and didn’t waver in his decision until he showed up at Ohio State a few weeks ago when the Buckeyes hosted Indiana. Ohio State was Sanders’ No. 2 choice when he made his decision in August.
According to sources, Sanders is expected to sign with Tennessee again this week, but this unexpected delay is a bit concerning for Vols fans. If you look at history, anything can happen at this time of year, and that could be concerning for Tennessee. There are only two days left in the early signature period, and Sanders will be “monitoring signatures” around the clock.

seminole surprise
The 2024 season has been a disaster for Florida State, but Seminole fans are in high spirits after a day few expected. Mike Knobel and his staff added five Rivals 250 candidates, one more four-star candidate, and five three-star candidates on Wednesday. The day started with one of the biggest reversals of signing day, with Rivals250 Auburn defensive back Shamar Arnoux signing with the ‘Noles.’ About two hours later, Florida State announced the signing of three-star offensive lineman Sean Pollett. Rivals250 Georgia running back commit Usman Kromer and Rivals250 UCF receiver commit Jayvan Boggs decided to sign with the Seminoles this afternoon. On Wednesday night, four-star receiver/tight end Teshaun Gelsey decided to sign with Florida State over Florida. Perhaps Florida State’s biggest victory on signing day was holding on to the commitment of Rivals 250 defensive lineman Kevin Wynn, who was being closely pursued by Georgia and South Carolina.
