The Senate Finance Committee will hold a confirmation hearing today regarding Frank Vignano’s appointment to become a Social Security Agency commissioner.
The hearing will begin at 10:10am ET and last approximately two and a half hours.
Bisignano could face questions about the future of SSA as talks have been strengthened about privatizing its agents. The hearing also faces the threat of shutting down agencies shortly after a threat from representatives after a federal judge banned access to sensitive personal data with government efficiency.
top Democrats on the Finance Committee, Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, and D-Mass. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of the senator yesterday sent a letter to Vignano asking if she supports the privatization of Social Security and whether she is willing to reverse recent changes, including the closure of the Social Security office.
“We are deeply concerned that these new developments will allow the Doge and Trump administrations to set up SSAs for failure, a failure that could block social security benefits for millions of Americans — to justify “private sector modifications.” Republicans have been cheating on the idea of privatizing Social Security for over 20 years,” the senator wrote in a letter.
“The latest change in the Social Security Administration is his clear daring to a program that provides financial security to millions of Americans, and I’m worried about the mantle being featured as the latest privatization crusade,” they added.
The hearing could be heated as Democrats are expected to push Bisignano over whether Doge and the deputy agree with what has been done so far, and whether he agrees with his ideas about threats to customer service and timely benefits, and whether he agrees with his approach to Trump’s claims about fraud in social security between Elon Musk and Trump.
Warren told NBC News yesterday that he plans to press Bisignano on a wide range of topics.
“Choosing Social Security Administrators should be clean with Americans. Does he agree with the cuts Elon Musk and his Doge boys are about to execute at the Social Security Agency?
Bisignano is the CEO of Fiserv’s payment technology, and some Democrats have raised concerns as the company can benefit from the privatization of Social Security.
