Pelosi, 84, is the first woman to serve as speaker of the House of Representatives and a longtime leader of the House Democratic Caucus.
“While visiting Luxembourg with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi was injured in the line of duty and was hospitalized for evaluation,” Pelosi spokesman Ian Crager said. said. said in a statement.

The San Francisco congressman will step down as speaker, the most powerful position after the vice president and the president, in 2023, but continues to serve in the House of Representatives.

Pelosi played a key role in passing Joe Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure bill in 2022 and famously feuded with Donald Trump during his first four years in office. It culminated in 2020 with her tearing up the State of the Union address on national television.
