Hello everyone!
Eventually I bought a 530d M Sport 2015 in Delhi, got it inspected by German Auto and drove it to Bangalore last week. I have written a separate post on the driving and road conditions in a related thread (Delhi to Bangalore: Route Query) but here I will mention a few things about the car.
The engine! Smooth, sleek, powerful and quiet even in the city. Inline 6 cylinder engine! I fell in love with it from day one. This transmission is one of the best I’ve experienced, but it doesn’t offer anything new beyond what’s already featured in the GTO and other products. The interior is amazing and even though this is my first luxury car (I’m still amazed I own a BMW 530d) every detail has been taken care of. Having felt lining everywhere is a luxury. Below is the first photo of my baby –
I could go on and on about cars, but I have two questions I’d like some help with from this amazing community.
1. Where can I get new tyres in Bangalore? Currently my car has off-brand tyres made in China but I don’t want to use them. I am looking for tubeless only and I can find 245/45 R18 front in many places but not 275/40 R18 rear. Everyone keeps recommending Pirelli but I have never heard good things about them. Is there anywhere I can get Yokohamas? Yokohama Advan Sport 105 which was also fitted to the GTO is not available but it is still my first choice.
If I can’t get Yokohamas, where can I get Michelins? Madhus at Wilson Gardens has the Michelin PS5, but it’s a lot more expensive than I’d like to pay (Rs 43,000 per rear tyre, Rs 30 per front tyre). Does anyone have other models in stock that are more affordable?
I plan to stick with the staggered setup, tubeless, and same brand tires only as recommended. Any recommendations appreciated!
2. The lining on my sunroof has come off. BMW told me it cannot be re-glued and that I will have to replace the entire panel. It will cost $42,000 + labor. I am thinking of having a few small issues repaired with Carmed, along with a tire change, WB, WA, but they also say they cannot use the same fabric. Do you have any recommendations on where I can re-glue the existing fabric on the sunroof? There is no damage at all, just peeling away and exposing the red rubbery material as you can see in the photo below.
While we wait for all these little modifications and repairs, we can’t wait to get started on this beautiful car!
