Jon Jones impressed Daniel Cormier.
On Saturday, Jones successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title with a third-round TKO over Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309. This match was nearly two years in the making and had been theorized to some extent. Jones has been a fan favorite for much longer than when he was the light heavyweight champion and Miocic was the heavyweight kingpin. And for Cormier, it was proof of just how good Jones is.
“This fight was constructed as a matchup against the greatest heavyweight of all time, who many consider to be the greatest fighter of all time,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “From the beginning of this fight, it was clear that these two weren’t on the same level. From round one — Jon Jones won the round 10-8 in round one. …
“That early takedown played a huge role in how the fight unfolded because it took a lot out of Stipe and then he seemed slow to get to John.”
“When a guy like Jon Jones steps into the Octagon, you have to prepare for a lot of things because a lot of things are going to hit you. So they put people in training camp trying to recreate that, but… , being there with him is very different because his speed is different, his combat IQ is different, his ability to set up his weapons is different…
“I think Stipe was expecting something, but he got something completely different. It was a wipeout. It was just a wipeout. And I was surprised, but this fight went in two directions. We knew it could be very close, it could be very competitive, or it could be one-sided. , Miocic chose a one-sided fight that didn’t yield much.
Cormier has a long history with both players. The former two-division champion faced Miocic three times for the heavyweight title and also had two bouts with Jones in one of the most heated and defining rivalries in the sport. But while Cormier and Jones have yet to get along personally, the UFC Hall of Famer will never deny why Jones was able to accomplish what he did.
“This guy has proven time and time again how good he is, and I truly believe a lot of that is due to hard work, fighting IQ, and the toughness and durability he has inside the Octagon. ” Cormier said. “It doesn’t matter what you think of Jon Jones in life, I have a lot of respect for him as a fighter. He does a lot of right things when he’s inside that octagon and that’s what makes him He has led me to more success than anyone else.”
After the win, Jones was cautious about what would happen next. ‘Bones’ has made no secret that he wants another ‘legendary’ bout with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira instead of a title unification bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall, and if he wins that bout, He even said he would retire. But for Cormier, the only fight that makes sense for Jones at this point is one where he’s cold — even though, as Jones has previously pointed out, it may just be one example of Jones proving his greatness. Even if there isn’t.
“We need to see him fight Tom Aspinall,” Cormier said. “…Aspinall is a big, explosive, young interim champion. That seems like a guy that could cause problems for Jon Jones, but we don’t think the guy is going to give Jones any problems. I’ve thought about it many times, but no one has been able to do it.”

Champion, @stipemiocic , thank you for all you do for our sport and most of all for the class and example you represent. I am grateful that our battles have made me a better warrior. Those moments taught me more than my years in this sport.

Moicano knows.
The amount of fouls Michael Chandler committed against Charles yesterday was impressive! Eye poke, blow to the back of the head, grab the cage! If he repeats the same thing in the next game, he needs to be severely punished. #ufc309

I miss Fight Circus.
Well, it was certainly a big weekend, if perhaps not the most unraveling one. Still, I finally resolved the heavy issues so that I can proceed properly.
