Montclair High School sports teams are fighting each other for a good cause again this October. For the second year in a row, the Mounties field hockey team is sponsoring the “Pink Your Pumpkin” fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This is the second time the contest has taken place.
Last year, the team came up with the idea of holding a pumpkin decorating contest for all Montclair High School sports teams to compete for the “most creative” and “most decorated” pumpkins.
Each team decorated a pumpkin. These are all featured on the Pink Your Pumpkin fundraising website.
Donors vote by choosing their favorite pumpkin and using the value of their donation as a vote. (1 dollar = 1 vote). Donations are tax deductible. The last day to vote is October 31st.
Proceeds will go directly to Comfort Project 360 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Comfort Project 360’s mission is to improve the overall patient experience. This is accomplished by creating a comforting, calming, and supportive environment for cancer patients and their loved ones.
Last year’s fundraiser raised about $8,000 for Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Breast cancer hit the Montclair field hockey team even harder a few years ago when booster club president Megan Spielberg was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“For me, ‘Pink Your Pumpkin’ is an ode to my mother, Meghan Spielberg,” Montclair senior Lauren Spielberg said. “Watching her endure months of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and multiple surgeries made me want to give back. ‘Pink Your Pumpkin’ was going through her toughest battle and I wanted to give back. It’s a way to show your mom how proud you are of her.
“Never give up” to raise breast cancer awareness
“I have seen firsthand how generous donations can support patients and families during treatment. We must never give up on raising awareness of breast cancer and supporting those fighting the battle every day. No.”
Senior Eliza Larson, one of Lauren Spielberg’s teammates, agreed that this fundraiser is about more than a personal connection, it’s about helping others affected by breast cancer.
“Breast cancer has had a huge impact on our team in recent years, hitting close to home in a way that shows us the value of our relationships and connections,” Larson said. Ta. “Pink Your Pumpkin gave us an opportunity to unite the Montclair High School sports community to support breast cancer patients, and make new connections with each other in the process.” We are very fortunate to partner with Comfort Project 360 and hope to have as much of an impact on patients’ lives as this team’s legacy has had on ours.”
Project 360 with comfortable lining
Through generous donations and community support, Comfort Project 360 was able to fund meaningful renovations to the medical center and introduce important programs and amenities.
“Cancer affects so many wonderful people in this world, so it’s so important that we stand by those who have died, their families, and all those who are still with us.” said Montclair field hockey senior Avery Dollard.
Montclair field hockey senior Bryn Williams said the fundraiser will involve all Mounties sports teams, adding that it shows that life is not all about results on the field or court during the school year. Ta.
“This breast cancer awareness effort means schools and sports teams coming together to support something bigger than us and our teams,” Williams said. “Montclair is such a great community, and it’s important that we support each other and work together to raise money for breast cancer.”
Montclair sports teams compete for top pumpkin spot
The teams participating in the fundraising contest are Varsity Field Hockey, JV Field Hockey, Freshman Field Hockey, Varsity Football, Men’s Varsity Soccer, Women’s Varsity Soccer, Varsity Gymnastics, and Varsity Cross Country/Track and Field.
All of the team’s pumpkins are featured on the Pink Your Pumpkin fundraising website.
Comfort Project 360 complements the care provided at St. Barnabas Medical Center’s Cancer Center by creating a supportive and healing environment in which patients and their loved ones are treated.
This project was founded in 2014.
And this year marks the 6th anniversary of A Reason to Rock, an annual fundraiser that supports physical and programmatic improvements to St. Barnabas Medical Center’s Cancer Center to improve the cancer patient experience. Masu.
