MIT ranked second in the nation’s best colleges and universities in its annual rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.
As in past years, MIT’s engineering program continues to top the list of undergraduate engineering programs at the doctoral level. The school also ranked first in six of nine fields of engineering.
U.S. News ranked MIT second in its evaluation of undergraduate computer science programs, tying it with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California, Berkeley. The school received first place in four of 10 computer science fields.
MIT continues to rank second for undergraduate business programs, sharing the ranking with the University of California, Berkeley. In business subfields, MIT ranks first in three of the 10 specializations.
The magazine’s ranking of “Notable Academic Programs” ranked MIT first in the areas of undergraduate research and creative projects, and U.S. News’ peer-evaluated survey of top scholars ranked the school third among the nation’s most innovative universities and third among its best value.
MIT ranked first in six engineering specialties: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It also ranked in the top five in two engineering specialties: Biomedical Engineering and Civil Engineering.
Other universities in the top five for overall undergraduate engineering programs are Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, Georgia Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
In Computer Science, MIT ranked first in four specializations: Biocomputing/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology, Computer Systems, Programming Languages, and Theory. It also ranked in the top five in five specializations: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics/Science, Mobile/Web Applications, and Software Engineering.
Ranked number one overall for undergraduate computer science programs is Stanford University. Other universities in the top five for overall undergraduate computer science programs are Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, Princeton University, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Among undergraduate business majors, MIT Sloan School of Management topped the list in Analytics, Production/Operations Management, and Quantitative Analysis, and also ranked in the top five in three areas: Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems, and Supply Chain Management/Logistics.
Ranked number one overall for undergraduate business programs is the University of Pennsylvania. Other universities in the top five include the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and New York University.
