On Saturday night, the No. 24 Missouri Tigers defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 30-23 to improve to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in SEC play.
But what was notable was how the Tigers earned their seventh win of the season.
The ending of this college football game was absolutely insane. Quarterback Drew Pine hit tight end Brett Norfleet with a 5-yard touchdown strike to give Missouri a 16-9 lead with 8:47 remaining. Oklahoma tied the game with 3:18 remaining on a trick play in which quarterback Jackson Arnold caught a touchdown pass, and the score was tied at 16 minutes.
The game was tied at 16 points and the real fun began.
Missouri running back Jamal Roberts took the handoff and was stacked at the line of scrimmage. He lost the football and the ball spun and fell onto the turf without the other Missouri players noticing the loose ball. Oklahoma senior defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. picked up the loose ball and returned it 43 yards to give the Sooners the lead.
On the next possession, trailing 23-16, Missouri quarterback Drew Pine led the offense with eight plays. He completed a 75-yard touchdown drive in just 57 seconds. It culminated in Pyne’s touchdown pass to wide receiver Theo Weese Jr.
After the extra point, Oklahoma returned on its next possession and tried to get into field goal range with the score tied at 23. On the second play of the drive, Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold was sacked and lost the football. Missouri defensive end Zion Young picked up the ball with 22 seconds left and slotted it into the end zone for the winning goal.
For those keeping score at home, that equates to four total touchdowns, including two defensive scores, in the final 3 hours and 18 minutes of regulation.
What a sprint! Congratulations to the Tigers. As for the Sooners, what a terrible loss.
