LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A new youth mental health facility serving children ages 12 to 17 is opening in Lincoln next week.
The center is called “Imagine by Northpoint,” and the company already has a center open in Omaha that served more than 140 young people last year.
Those behind the mission say they faced strong protests from people needing mental health services in other communities, which prompted the move to Lincoln.
NorthPoint Executive Director Tiffany Gormley said the goal is to treat teens through services such as group and family therapy and prevent bad habits that could lead to drug use as adults.
“As social media becomes more prevalent and people become more connected, we can see it impacting their mental health,” she said.
NorthPoint has been based in Nebraska for about three years and has locations across the U.S., including Colorado, Idaho and Washington state.
While the new center will primarily serve adolescents, NorthPoint also has adult programs, including partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care.
“The pandemic has caused people to become very isolated and has led to a surge in substance use and mental health concerns,” Gormley said. “We really need to respond to that need to help people get back in recovery.”
The center opened Monday and is located at 3801 Union Drive, Suite 100, just south of the Williamsburg Hy-Vee.
