Melania Trump’s memoir of the same title is a 180-page memoir aimed at shifting blame and avoiding responsibility. The former first lady of the United States accused her staff of plagiarizing Michelle Obama. Even though she professes to hate liars who lie, she repeatedly emphasizes her love for her husband. And it declares abortion a fundamental right without pausing to consider Donald Trump’s role in attacking abortion through the U.S. Supreme Court.
This is by no means an exhaustive read on Melania, but it does leave readers wondering why she chose to bare her soul just weeks before the election. Or whether Kamala Harris is likely to communicate her policy preferences more accurately than her husband, who is once again the Republican nominee.
Many subjects are missing. Naturally, Melania does not say anything about the other women involved in her husband’s life. Stormy Daniels, the adult film star whose hush money payments led to Donald’s conviction. Karen McDougal (former Playboy Playmate who also had an affair with Donald). Donald’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, has been mentioned only a handful of times, but the president has said he would have dated her if she weren’t alive, and is widely reported to be disliked by Melania. President Trump’s children with other women are rarely observed. Melania has repeatedly stated that she loves her son, Barron, and his parents as well.
Formally, there is no clue as to who helped Melania write it. In contrast to Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner’s White House memoir, “Breaking History,” Melania Trump did not acknowledge the book. It’s entirely possible that someone helped her.
Her book contains 64 pages of photographs. The first page is a passport page stamped at New York’s JFK Airport on August 27, 1996, the day Melania Trump arrived in the United States. The last page contains “Digital Collectibles” available from melaniatrump.com. Just like her husband, it’s all about the brand. “Financial independence is a core value of mine,” Melania wrote. “Melania’s timepieces and jewelry represent my passions, projects, and business, and are a symbol of independence, self-worth, and empowerment for all women.”
Not surprisingly, Melania’s views on policy are attracting more attention. Her pro-individual freedom stance is in full force, not to mention Dobbs v. Jackson, a decision in which the Supreme Court, including three hardliners founded by Donald Trump, gutted constitutional rights to abortion and privacy. It is claimed that
“It is essential that women have the autonomy to decide whether to have children based on their own beliefs, without interference or pressure from the government,” she said. “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying a woman control over her own body. I have held this belief all my adult life. I continued.”
Simply put, such words contradict her party’s record. And more will be said in another chapter.
First lady Melania fired a staffer for drafting a 2016 Republican National Convention speech that plagiarized Michelle Obama. However, Melania was also able to point the finger at herself.
“As I reviewed many speeches by past first ladies, Michelle’s words, which emphasize the core values of hard work, honesty, and kindness, resonated deeply with me,” she said. She writes about the conversation.
In other words, first lady Melania Trump is familiar with Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech, which she repeated in 2016 to Republicans in Cleveland.
There are others too. Before speaking at the RNC, Melania “rehearsed a lot with a teleprompter and felt confident in the way she spoke.” Still, she claims she was shocked when the plagiarism was discovered and there was a media uproar.
“Upon closer inspection, I was struck by the unmistakable similarities between the two speeches.”
Really?
“I believed there would be all sorts of political and legal scrutiny, but I now realize that the campaign and the RNC left me alone.”
Talk about throwing your staff under a passing bus. Still, to quote Don Jr.’s fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle’s dying words, “The best is yet to come.”
“‘Why wasn’t the speech scrutinized?’ I asked Donald in frustration. From then on, I realized the importance of being deeply involved in every detail of public life. , do not delegate specific tasks or trust others to ensure that their reputation is protected.”
Specifically, first lady Melania Trump is criticizing Meredith McIver of the Trump Organization. Melania Obama has said that she herself has read the words of Michelle Obama, and that first lady Melania Obama has repeatedly put them into practice. As the saying goes, shit goes down hill.
Regarding her husband, Melania is not the target of any criticism. The chaos of January 6th is dealt with just as quickly as any untoward incident that actually appears on her page. She wagged her finger at those who stormed the Capitol in an effort to overturn President Donald Trump’s 2020 defeat, but also claims she was unaware of the events for much of that horrific day.
“The violence we witnessed was unequivocally unacceptable,” she wrote. But in the next breath, she added, “We recognize that many people feel the election was conducted incorrectly, and the Vice President recognizes that the certification process should be halted.”
Unsurprisingly, first lady Melania Trump’s stance on the protests after George Floyd’s murder was far harsher, condemning the “inflammatory rhetoric of Black Lives Matter leaders.” In fact, she does not explicitly name Floyd, the Minneapolis man whose killing by police sparked long and hot protests in the summer of 2020.
Her husband encouraged the far-right Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” during the election, and said, “There will be massive protests in Washington, D.C. on January 6th, and I’m sure he’ll be there.” As for her husband’s prediction: “It’s going to be a big fuss!” Did he exhort his followers to “fight like hell”?
Crickets.
It’s been almost eight years since Melania Trump reportedly cried in grief on election night 2016 when her husband won the White House. She could still go back. That’s probably enough content for another 180 pages.
