Cadillac on Friday unveiled its latest concept car, the Opulent Velocity, which shows the luxury brand’s plans for electrifying its high-performance vehicles.
The Opulent Velocity is the second concept car Cadillac has unveiled this summer. In July, it unveiled the Solei, an ultra-luxury concept electric convertible that showed off the best of the brand’s latest technology while incorporating a bit of its history. John Ross, vice president of Global Cadillac, called the Solei a “design exploration” that comes from the brand pushing the boundaries of other products, such as the hand-assembled Celestique EV.

In a statement, Brian Nesbitt, Cadillac’s executive director of global design, called Opulent Velocity “an experiential design study.”
“It’s a vision of the future of luxury performance that incorporates Cadillac’s leadership in hands-free driving, electrification and superior performance,” he said. “Opulent Velocity represents the most artistic integration of the technology, luxury and exhilaration that characterizes Cadillac’s halo V-series variants with future electrified design expression.”
The latest concept offers two experiences: Opulent and Velocity.
Cadillac says Opulent allows drivers to experience Level 4 autonomous driving with a “hands-free, immersive experience.” The driverless experience is accompanied by multisensory modes that encourage rest. These modes can be accessed through the full-widescreen display and augmented reality head-up display.
The controller allows the driver to switch from autonomous mode to Velocity, revealing the hidden steering wheel and pedals. Velocity gives the driver a thrilling ride inspired by the high-performance engineering of Cadillac’s Blackwing.
On the outside, the Opulent Velocity features a taut front fascia and butterfly doors with what Cadillac calls “dramatic draped surfaces.”
Inside the car, you’ll find a 3D widescreen display, digital cockpit, a race-inspired Y-shaped steering wheel and a voice command user experience.
“Opulent Velocity draws inspiration from dynamic design elements from motorsports with its 2+2 aerodynamic body shape,” said Magaly DeBellis, Cadillac advanced design manager. “Conceptualized with every element and feeling in mind, it showcases the perfect blend of hypercar personality, sumptuous finishes and respected opulence — signaling to the world that Cadillac intends to lead the way in electrified luxury performance.”
