MECOSTA — Lakeside Motor Sports in Mecosta is responding to circulating rumors that it is under investigation by the FBI and has had its assets seized.
When contacted, a company representative told the Pioneer that the rumors were “outrageously inaccurate” and that Lakeside Motor Sports was temporarily closing due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
“No FBI or IRS agents have visited their business, and have never done so,” the spokesperson said. “We are closed due to unforeseen circumstances, but we expect to reopen and be fully operational next week and are working to resolve the issue.”
Sources confirmed that no one from the FBI or IRS showed up and they didn’t lock the doors.
“The only padlocks we have here are our own,” a company representative said.
The FBI office in Detroit, when contacted by The Pioneer for comment, said they would not provide any information about the case.
Lakeside Motor Sports has been a family-owned business since it opened on Sept. 1, 1998, according to the company’s website.
With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Ed Richter owns Lakeside Motor Sports with his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law.
“After more than 20 years in the marine and powersports industry, I noticed a huge gap in Mid-Michigan. What was truly missing in the region was a marina and powersports dealership that is dedicated to providing top-notch customer service. My goal is for every customer who walks into my family-owned and operated dealership to feel at home. From the first meeting to delivery and beyond, I want them to feel that they are our top priority and to know that we appreciate their business both before and after the sale,” Richter said of the business to LakeSideMotorSports.net.
