Dallas — Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is the latest professional athlete to have his home burglarized.
Star Guard’s business manager told multiple media outlets on Saturday that there had been a break-in at Doncic’s home. Lara Beth Seeger said no one was home at the time of the incident Friday night, and Doncic filed a police report.
An internal police report obtained by the Dallas Morning News said about $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen.
“After that incident, I reached out to Luka and talked to him,” coach Jason Kidd said Saturday night before the Mavericks’ matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers. “He’s fine. I’m glad no one was hurt.”
Doncic, a 25-year-old from Slovenia, is the sixth known American professional athlete to have his home burglarized since October. Among them are NFL star quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City and Joe Burrow of Cincinnati, as well as Mahomes’ tight end, Travis Kelce.
The others were Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr.
The NFL and NBA issued red alerts to players after the break-ins, some of which occurred while the players were away from their teams for road games. The NFL’s warning states that the homes of professional athletes from multiple sports are “increasingly being targeted by organized and sophisticated groups for burglary.”
Ms Barrow lamented the loss of privacy that comes with having to admit she is the victim of trespassing.
The incident at Doncic’s home came two days after the five-time All-NBA player injured his left calf in a game against the Timberwolves on Christmas Day. The injury is expected to keep Doncic out for about a month.
