Australia holds a special place in Matt’s heart and he visits the country frequently for both work and play.
While appearing on Channel 7’s Sunrise earlier this week, Matt spoke about his deep affection for Queensland, and in particular his fondness for Brisbane’s iconic agricultural festival, the Ekka.
“You’re half Australian these days, aren’t you? You come to the Ekka every two years,” reporter Steve Hargrave remarked, to which Matt replied with a warm smile, “I’ve been to the Ekka for a few years now, but I don’t know if I can go this year because I have to go back to the States.”

During the interview, Matt gushed about the festival to Casey, who was new to the annual event: “It’s awesome. I’ve got to take him.” [Casey] “To Ekka,” he said, his eyes lighting up at the idea.
Matt shared some funny anecdotes about his experiences on the Ekka, giving his family plenty of laughs as he revealed he often ends up on the “scary” rides.
“My kids love it because they force me to go on those scary rides, but my mom doesn’t want to go,” he said, laughing, “so I’m a loser. They love watching me get spun around on those rides.”
Officially known as the Royal Queensland Show, the Ekka is Queensland’s biggest agricultural event, held annually at the Brisbane Showgrounds. A celebration of the region’s rich farming traditions, it features thrilling rides, show bags and delicious food, making it the perfect family outing for a Hollywood star like Matt.
A devoted family man, Matt is used to juggling fatherhood with the demands of work. He and Luciana have three daughters, Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, 13. Matt is also stepfather to Alexia, 25, Luciana’s daughter from a previous relationship.
