A top staff member for North Carolina’s embattled Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson resigns after CNN KFile reports that Robinson made inflammatory and racist comments on a message board on a pornographic website. It is planned.
Robinson’s chief of staff and general counsel, Brian Libecki, will resign within the next week, sources said. His resignation is the latest in a series of high-profile departures from Robinson’s staff following last week’s CNN report.
Robinson, the Republican candidate for North Carolina governor, had already lost most of his campaign staff, including his campaign director, deputy campaign director, finance director, senior adviser and general consultant, with Sunday’s resignation.
The New York Times and WRAL reported Wednesday that Mr. Robinson also resigned as director of policy, communications, and government affairs. CNN reached out to those staffers but did not receive a response.
Robinson announced his new chief of staff on the X Office Thursday morning and promoted deputy chief of staff Krishana Polite to the top position.
Robinson’s vile comments include calling himself a “black Nazi,” describing how he was “peeping” on women at a public gym when he was 14, and appearing on the pornographic website Nude Africa. This included expressing support for the restoration of slavery.
Robinson listed her full name in her Nude Africa profile, as well as the email address she had used for decades on numerous websites on the Internet.
In an interview with CNN last week, Robinson repeatedly denied making the comments about Nude Africa.
“This is not us. These are not our words. And this is not unique to me,” Robinson said. Mr Robinson said he was presented with a body of evidence linking him to the Nude Africa username and said: “I’m not going to go into the details of how someone fabricated such a vile tabloid lie.” said.
