Author and former presidential candidate Marianne Williamson announced Thursday that she is running for leadership of the Democratic National Committee.
“I am proud to announce that I am running for DNC Chair. To meet the challenges of this moment, the Democratic Party needs change,” she wrote on social media, addressing Democratic National Committee members. It included a link to a lengthy letter in which he outlined his ambitions for the Democratic Party’s leadership.
Williamson ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and 2024, but withdrew in January before the Iowa caucuses after failing to qualify to vote in several debates in 2020. The best performance in the 2024 New Hampshire primary was 4%, with Joe Biden getting 63.8% of the vote despite not officially participating in the primary, and outgoing Dean getting nearly 20%. – He was second only to Congressman Phillips. She ended her candidacy, re-entered the 2024 race twice, and ended her third and final campaign in July.
She replaces outgoing Chairman Jamie Harrison and joins a growing field that includes former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who ran for president in 2016. Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Chairman Ken Martin. Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler; and New York State Senator James Skoufis.
