President Donald Trump today insisted that even if he said he “fucked” Yemen’s “compromising” plan of attack, it didn’t include anything in the encrypted chat between his aides.
“There were no details. There was nothing compromised. It didn’t affect the attack, but it was very successful,” Trump said in a phone interview with “The Vince Shaw.”
He was speaking after Atlantic Magazine announced more chat discussions that included references to specific times and methods of air strikes in Yemen. “It was a very successful offense,” Trump continued in a morning interview.
He cast the episode as a technical error rather than a violation of the classified information.
“Someone in my group has been ruined or that’s a bad signal,” he said.
“You know, it’s a bad signal and it happens,” he said. “But it seems like they’ve come along with the staff. It was a coincidence. I know most of the things we can tell you today, but I think there are some pretty good people checking out their phones.”
“It’s not a big deal. I want to know who did it and how it was because you know that in the future you won’t be able to make it happen,” he added.
Trump then said there could be “very innocent staff” where journalist Jeffrey Goldberg could join the chat. “I think we’ll get to that bottom soon, and that’s really not a big deal,” he said.
According to U.S. defense officials, the information chief for Pete Hegseth, which CNN disclosed in Signal Chat, reported that CNN previously reported that he was highly classified as at the time of his writing.
