Spanish reinsurer MapFre Re has reorganized its business structure with the aim of advancing its “strategic goals.”
Effective changes from March 1 will focus on the development of life business, along with “a strategic, commercial and technical focus and strengthening relationships with clients and brokers.”
The new structure is also expected to support “agile response” to evolving clients and market needs.
Mapfre Re has appointed Javier San Basilio as general manager.
In his new role, Basilio will be responsible for coordinating regional divisions and building relationships with large clients and brokers.
The non-group business of reinsurers is now structured into non-life underwriting and life businesses.
As assistant general manager, Carmembueso will lead a non-life underwriting unit, while Might Gonzalez will lead a life business that includes life, health and accident functions.
Ricardo Perez has been appointed manager of the Iberia and Latin America regions and will be a member of the Management Committee of MapFre Re.
The company operates in four regional divisions, Iberia/Ratum, which is overseen by Perez. APAC led by Javier Sánchez Cea. EMEA led by Mark Meyerhoff. North America managed by Carlos Sanzo.
Fernando Utilla will continue to manage businesses coming from the MAPFRE group.
Furthermore, under the leadership of Juan Satrústegui, the Strategic, Communication, Sustainability and Innovation sectors have been established to provide a “integrated vision” of these aspects.
“We’re committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Miguel Rosa, CEO of Mapfre Re. We will support non-life businesses and drive the development of our business in life.
In December 2024, MAPFRE sponsored its first catastrophe bond (120.98 million euros), designed to protect against devastating events such as tropical storms and hurricanes in the United States.
“MAPFRE RE Improves Business Structure to Drive Strategic Goals” was originally created and published by Life Insurance International, a globalData-owned brand.
