Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High School senior Tate Haugenow, 24, and his teammates departed for Tuesday’s WDA game at Bismarck Century with a win.
BISMARCK — In a battle of undefeated teams in the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings, Minot High School defeated the Bismarck Century host team 2-1 and the Travelers defeated the home team.
Minot High School scored two goals in the third period, while the Sabers scored one goal in the same period. The Magicians had 33 shots on goal compared to 19 for the Century.
Carter Coleman found the back of the net for the Magicians’ first goal, tying the game at 1-1, and Cohen Schmeichel and Michael Ely had assists.
Easton Panask scored the go-ahead goal on the power play, with assists from Teagan Strand and McCree Morelli.
Century had six penalties in the game compared to Minot High’s five. Devon Keller stopped 18 of 19 shots on net for the Magicians.
With the win, Minot High School improves to 3-0 in WDA play, tying it with Jamestown and Williston, which have the same record.
The Magicians had 14 points and just two points, Jamestown had 14 points and four points and seven points, and Williston had 18 points and four points. Each team will start the WDA season with three consecutive wins and nine points.
Minot High School will host Dickinson on Saturday before playing a non-conference game at Devils Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
