The Minot High School boys soccer team hosted the Dickinson Midgets with a chance to take sole possession of second place in the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings with three games remaining in the regular season.
Following a 7-0 win over Dickinson High School, Minot High School (8-3-2, 10-3-2) moves into a big game against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Duane Carlson Stadium, trailing only Jamestown High School (12-0-0, 12-0-0) in the standings.
Minot High School opened the scoring against Dickinson High School just four minutes into the first half when Dylan Jackson passed to Justice Ambushree for the goal. The Magicians had multiple shots on goal including a corner kick. The clock ticked down to zero and Minot High School went into halftime with a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Halftime was just what the Magicians needed to get some net action going.
Two minutes into the second half, Samuel Echanis scored off an assist from Dylan Oswalt, and two minutes later Vinny Paraia did the same off the same pass, and six minutes later Ambsley scored his second of the game unassisted.
With 13 minutes remaining and a 4-0 lead, Oswalt passed to Jackson for another goal. Kyle Ecklund passed to Tayson Solper midway through the second half and Solper scored again 14 minutes later, this time with an assist from Cale Workman, to make it 7-0.
Grayden Waldo didn’t have a single shot on goal for the Magicians, but Minot High had eight shots on goal in addition to the seven he saw on the scoreboard.
In the first half of the year, Minot High School outscored its opponents 14-11, but in the second half, the Magicians were outscored 12-4.
Minot High School will play Minot North at home on Tuesday, Sept. 24, then welcome unbeaten Jamestown home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and visit Bismarck High School on Thursday, Oct. 3 to finish the regular season before moving on to postseason seeding and matches.
