MADISON, Wis. — The quality of education at these Madison schools couldn’t be higher, with several ranked in the top 30 for their grade in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings.
“These evaluations are a direct reflection of our commitment to focusing on our students and helping them reach their full potential,” said MMSD Superintendent Dr. Joe Gothard. said.
Of the more than 1,900 elementary schools across Wisconsin included in the list, Shorewood Hills Elementary School, Van Huis Elementary School, and Randall Elementary School ranked 8th, 12th, and 29th, respectively.
Out of 100, Shorewood Hills, Van Hise and Randall achieved scores of 99.1, 98.9 and 97.2, respectively. Velma Hamilton Middle School is ranked #15 out of 1,456 middle schools in Wisconsin with a score of 97.43.
Nishi High School ranked 24th out of 569 target high schools with an overall score of 94.35. Vel Phillips Memorial received a score of 86.86, placing it 69th and in the top 13% of high schools in Wisconsin.
Other notable lists included Marquette Elementary School and Stevens Elementary School, both of which ranked in the top 10 percent of elementary schools in the state, and Spring Harbor Middle School, which ranked in the top 10 percent of middle schools in the state.
Elementary and middle schools were ranked primarily on measures of proficiency and performance on state-administered math and reading tests.
High school rankings were determined by school readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates.
